This site gets its name from a history of being an active coal mine. It has since been dramatically landscaped to create open spaces and vistas across to Winter Hill, Astley Green and on a clear day the Welsh mountains. There are often health walks and cycle rides on this site. Colliers Wood can be reached easily from the nearby towns of Leigh, Tyldsley and Astley.
